In memory of late popular writer Humayun Ahmed, who was considered to be one of the greatest writers in modern times of Bangladesh, Bangladesh National Museum (BNM), in association with Bank Asia, arranged a weeklong exhibition titled ‘Humayun Ahmed Exhibition 2015’ at BNM. Eminent educationist Professor Emeritus Anisuzzaman attended the inaugural ceremony followed by a commemorative discussion programme on Humayun Ahmed on Friday at BNM, where eminent writer Anisul Hoque, Imdadul Haq Milon, Humayun Ahmed’s wife Meher Afroz Shaon and Anya Prokash publisher Mazharul Islam were present, among others.
Imdadul Haq Milon recalled fondly all pleasant memories he spent with the late iconic writer.  He said, “Humayun Ahmed was a man of multi-faceted talent. Humayun Ahmed could captivate the hearts of young readers by creating such brilliant characters like ‘Misir Ali’ and ‘Himu’ in his writing, and on the other hand, he was also admired by the litterateurs for his writings like ‘Phera’, Oyomoy’. He was a food lover and liked to treat people to good food. He was a fun loving person too.”
Anisul Hoque said, “Humayun Ahmed, in his writings, novels, dramas, and films, depicted the true story in a comical way. He chose the happiness and sorrow of human life as a medium of his writings, and that is why a novel, book or drama of Humayun Ahmed was unique.”
At the inaugural ceremony of the exhibition, the fans of Humayun Ahmed, donning yellow dresses, represented the late writer’s famous fictional character ‘Himu’. The overwhelming response of fans reflect the writer’s immense popularity to the younger generation. People from all walks of life are visiting the exhibition to pay tribute to their famous writer. The exhibition enabled Humayun Ahmed’s fans to get a view of his paintings and along with a rare collection of photographs which depict him at different stages in his life.
Shaon said regarding Humayun Ahmed’s painting, “Humayun Ahmed loved what he did. He was so talented that for his paintings, he did not take any sort of training from any artists. He purchased some books regarding painting and by reading those books, he tried to paint by himself. We could not display all the artworks because some of his artworks remain incomplete.” Besides the exhibition, screening of Humayun Ahmed’s films is also taking place daily at the BNM. The exhibition is open to all everyday, until December 2.
