Ctg slum fire kills 1
A young boy was killed and at least 50 shanties were gutted in a devastating fire which broke out at a slum in the city’s Agrabad-Mogpukurpar area on Friday night. The deceased could not be identified immediately.
Deputy assistant director of Chittagong fire service Abdul Malek said the fire originated at a shanty following the explosion of a gas cylinder around 9:45 pm and soon it engulfed the adjoining ones.
On information, 12 fire-fighting units rushed in and doused the blaze after one and half hours of frantic efforts with the help of locals.
Later, they recovered the charged body of the youth, aged around 20-22, from the slum and sent it to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for autopsy.
Drugs seized in Ctg
Chittagong District Police in overnight special drives arrested 58 people, including two Jamaat-Shibir activists, from different upazilas of the district Friday night.
Among the arrested including two Jamaat-Shibir activists, 10 were nabbed by the article 54 and 48 accused in regular cases, said Abdul Awal, additional superintendent of Police (Special Branch) of Chittagong district.
Police also recovered 120 pieces of yaba tablets and 141 litres of country-made liquor during the drives, he added.
Chittagong district police also arrested 65 people including three Jamaat-Shibir activists from different Upazilas of the district on Thursday night.
Abdul Awal, Additional Superintendent of Police (Special Branch) of Chittagong district, said the arrestees include three Jamaat-Shibir activists, 50 accused in regular cases and 12 others.
Two detained with phensidyl
During an anti-crime drive, members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested two youths and seized 1,135 bottles of smuggled phensidyl from their possessions in Sarla area in Godagari upazila of the district early yesterday, RAB sources here said.
The arrested persons were identified as Bairul Islam, 27, son of Mainul Islam and Mijanur Rahman, 20, son of Rafiqul Islam. On receipt of a tip-off, a team of the elite force conducted a drive in the area and arrested them.
They also recovered the huge Phensidyl syrup from their possessions. A case was filed with Godagari Police Station in this connection.
3 arrested with yaba
Detective Branch (DB) of Barisal Metropolitan police in a drive arrested three persons with 105 pieces of yaba tablets from a hotel of the city area on Thursday night.
Three arrested persons were identified as Milon Sarkar, 27, M Jahidul Islam, 26 and M Milon Hawladar, 28.
DB police sources said on secret information, members of DB police conducted the drive and arrested them with the tablets at about 9:30 pm. A case was filed in this connection.
Workshop held
Speakers at a daylong workshop on teachers training opined that all the teachers should have to gain competency and attain professionalism through training for teaching students properly.
The observation came in the dissemination workshop titled "Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Policy and Procedure" held in Rajshahi Teachers Training College (RTTC) here on Friday largely attended by teachers of the district.
Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education arranged the workshop in association with Teaching Quality Improvement in Secondary Education Project.
