Erosion, triggered by strong current in the Kawcha River, has threatened Charkhali ferry terminal at Bhandaria in Pirojpur. As the erosion has taken a serious turn the gangway of the ferry terminal might collapse anytime. Vehicles are using the gangway in great risk. Stuill there is no sign of any initiative of the concerned authorities in protecting the ferry terminal used by hundreds of buses, trucks and other vehicles that are bound for the southern areas of the country, including Barisal, Patuakhali and Borguna.  People doing business near the terminal keep on shifting their shops to nearby safer places. Abdus Sobahan Hawlader, one of the shopkeepers of Charkhali terminal, he is shifting his shop almost every year, especially at the time of October and November when the erosion takes serious turn. About the erosion, Md Fakhrul Islam, assistant engineer of Roads and Highways Department said it is the duty of the Bangladesh Water Development Board to save the river bank. But to save the ferry terminal the RHD will take necessary steps soon.
