Bangladesh Astronomical Society celebrated World Space Week with events on Nov 19- 20 at Mohakash Bhaban in Enayetpur, says a press release.
The celebrations included a spectacular street rally through the town with students and teachers carrying colourful space-related placards; a space art contest, where about 100 participating students drew pictures from their imagination on ‘Careers in Space’; a debate and a lecture on space issues; a ‘Space Dance’ by students; and a fancy dress contest where kids dressed up in the uniforms of space shuttle astronauts.
On Nov 20, a ‘Water Rocket Launch’ contest was held on the playground of Enayetpur High School, where 25 students launched their handmade water rockets.
Nearly 2,000 students, teachers and space enthusiasts took part in the two-day event.
World Space Week is a UN programme, celebrated annually to create space awareness among school students around the world. It is coordinated by World Space Week Association, based in Houston, USA.
Since 2003, Bangladesh Astronomical Society has been marking the occasion with events in Enayetpur, a village in Sirajganj, about 80 miles from the capital.
