At least seven persons died across the country yesterday with coronavirus symptoms like fever, cough and breathing problems upon getting admitted to separate hospitals in six districts. Of the seven, two died in Barishal while one respectively in Dhaka, Khulna, Rajshahi, Manikganj and Jamalpur. But the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) is yet to confirm whether the youth died of coronavirus or not.
“The samples were collected yesterday morning, although he died on Saturday,” said Alamgir Hossain, the chief scientific officer of the IEDCR. The result was, however, due to be known by the evening. “The samples of the deceased patient’s wife and child were also collected,” he informed.
Earlier, the patient was taken to Holy Family Hospital in the capital on Friday with urinary problems. The emergency department recommended admitting the patient to the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU), according to the Holy Family Hospital authorities.
Later, the ICU doctor advised his relatives to take him to the Kurmitola Hospital after coming to know about his 10-day fever, pneumonia and other diseases.
Meanwhile, the burial of the deceased has been completed.
Barishal sees 2 deaths with coronavirus symptoms
Two persons with coronavirus symptoms died at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) in Barishal yesterday. The deceased were identified as Jakir Hossain, a resident of Patuakhali, and Niru Begum, 45, wife of Md Dulal of Puranpara area in the city.
Six patients with symptoms of coronavirus were admitted to the SBMCH since last night. Doctors of the hospital said the hospital lacks equipment required to test the deadly virus.
Niru was the first one to die at the Coronavirus Unit of the hospital in the early hours of Sunday. Jakir’s death was reported about eight hours later.
SBMCH Director Dr Md Bakir Hossain said Niru’s relatives rushed her to the emergency around 11:45pm.
He suggested them to take the patient to the Coronavirus Unit of the hospital after knowing about her symptoms. She died around 12:05am.
She had been suffering from diarrhoea and underwent treatment at Barisal General Hospital around three days ago.
She returned home upon recovery, but had illness again with fever, pain in the throat and asthmatic problem. She also had diabetes and high blood pressure, the doctor said quoting her relatives.
The relatives later took the body home soon after her death.
Our correspondent from Patuakhali reports that the administration has locked down the residence of two deceased persons, who died in Patuakhali.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Latifa Jannatti warned the locals that a red flag was flagged off at the residences in Kalikapur area and Bahalgachia area of the municipality. However, the district administration provided the families with foodstuff.
Civil Surgeon Dr. Md. Jahangir Alam confirmed that the health workers sent samples to the IEDCR after collecting those from the body Saturday night after receiving information from the locals. Corona panic soon gripped the people of the area, including the Matbarbari house in the town’s Kalikapur area.
Man undergoing treatment at KMCH corona unit dies
A man, who was put under isolation at the Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) with coronavirus symptoms, died yesterday morning.
The deceased was identified as Sultan Sheikh, 70, son of Abdul Gafur from Narail’s Kalia upazila.
KMCH coronavirus unit Dr Shailendranath Biswas said Sultan was undergoing treatment at the Corona Unit although he had been suffering from tuberculosis.
He said that the IEDCR was informed about the case, but the latter said it’s not important to take Sultan’s sample as he had tuberculosis.
Sultan’s body was later handed over to his family without any test, the doctor added.
Khulna district Civil Surgeon Dr Sujat Ahmed also confirmed that the man had been suffering from tuberculosis.
Earlier, one Mustahidur Rahman was admitted to the KMCH with coronavirus symptoms, but he tested negative.
Youth with coronavirus symptoms dies at RMCH
A young man with symptoms of the novel coronavirus died at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) Saturday night. The deceased was identified as Al Amin, 22, son of Moklesur Rahman, hailing from Alankar Dighi village under Raninagar upazila of Naogaon.
Moklesur said to a news agency that Al Amin worked as an assistant at a clothing shop in Narayanganj. He returned home with severe cold, fever, and asthma in the morning.
As the villagers raised their voice with regard to keeping him home, he was taken to Naogaon Sadar Hospital. But the doctors declined to provide him treatment and sent them back. Later, they were also turned away from Adamdighi Upazila Health Complex in Bogura. Later, the patient was admitted to Raninagar Upazila Health Complex with the assistance of Raninagar UNO Al Mamun. He was later shifted to Naogaon Sadar Hospital and finally to the RMCH, where the doctors declared him dead around 9:30pm, father of the deceased added.
Deputy Director of RMCH Dr Saiful Ferdous said, “Al Amin was admitted with symptoms of novel coronavirus, but he had been suffering from meningitis. The body of the deceased was handed over to the family the same night.”
Woman dies in Manikganj with COVID-19 symptoms
A woman, who was suffering with coronavirus symptoms, died in Manikganj yesterday. The 26-year-old woman was from Boraichhara village under Harirampur Upazila of Manikganj.
The woman was taken to Munnu Medical College Hospital (MMCH) in Sadar upazila in the morning, but the duty doctor declared her dead.
MMCH Deputy Director SM Moniruzzaman said the woman was already dead when she was brought to the hospital. She was suffering from fever, cough and breathing problem for seven days. Apart from this, she was suffering from diarrhoea for the last two days.
Manikganj Civil Surgeon Dr Anwarul Amin Akhand said samples of the body were collected and will be sent to the IEDCR within a short time.
Deputy Commissioner SM Ferdous said family members of the deceased and their closest neighbours had been ordered to be placed in home quarantine.
At the same time, the hospital and the people, who came in contact with the patient, has been kept under special surveillance. If the woman tests positive for the coronavirus, the entire village of the deceased will be locked down, he said.
One dies in Jamalpur with coronavirus symptoms
A patient died at Jamalpur General Hospital with coronavirus symptoms on Saturday. He got admitted at the hospital at 12:00pm on the same day and died after two hours.
Jamalpur Civil Surgeon Dr Gautam Roy said, “Relatives of the patient came to the emergency department of the hospital at Saturday noon. At that time, the duty doctor admitted the patient to the hospital. Later, the nurse in charge of the ward measured the patient’s body temperature and got panicked after learning that the patient had breathing problem.
The other nurses of the ward also got panicked at the time. Then the patient was referred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, but the patient died at 2:00pm.
