Producer-director Motiur Rahman Panu passes away

Veteran film director-producer Motiur Rahman Panu, widely known as the producer of all-time popular film ‘Beder Meye Josna’, died on Tuesday night. He breathed his last at his residence in the capital’s Uttara area around 11:30 pm. He was 80.

President of Producers Association Khorshed Alam Khasru confirmed the news of Panu’s death. Khasru said, “Panu bhai was ill for a long time. He was suffering from various old-age complications.”

Bangladesh Film Producers and Distributors Association and Bangladesh Film Directors’ Association expressed their profound shock at the demise of producer-director Motiur Rahman Panu. They prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved family.

Born on December 31 in 1939 in Bogra, Motiur Rahman Panu completed SSC from Bogra Central High School in 1962. Later, he came to Dhaka and started working as an assistant director at BFDC in 1964.

In 1979, Panu made his directorial debut with the film ‘Harano Manik’. He later produced the film ‘Beder Meye Josna’ in 1989, which was one of the most commercially successful films and also got immense popularity among the audience.

Panu-directed and produced some notable films include—‘Molla Barir Bou’, ‘Moner Majhe Tumi’, ‘Tiger Number one’, ‘Apon Bhai’, ‘Nag Mahal’, ‘Nirdhosh’, ‘Sahos’, ‘Man Morjada’, ‘Nirjaton’ and ‘Sathi’. l
