Dhaka University (DU) authorities have ordered the residential students to leave their dormitories by 6pm today (Friday) due to coronavirus fear. The decision came from an emergency Syndicate meeting yesterday at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building chaired by DU Vice-chancellor Prof M Akhtaruzzman. Several syndicate members including Associate Professor of Islamic History and Culture department Mohammad Humayun Kabir confirmed the matter.

The university also extended the tenure of classes and examinations suspension till March 31.  Authorities on Monday suspended all classes and examinations of the university for 11 days till March 28 and said it would be adjusted with summer vacation. A ‘Corona Response Committee’ has been formed consisting five members led by Dean of Medicine faculty of DU Dr Shahriar Nabi, who is also associate professor of Radiology and Imaging department of Dhaka Medical College. The committee will coordinate information related to coronavirus inside the campus.  The syndicate also asked the officials of DU to limit their work and permitted working from home.
