BCB halts DPL from round 2

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) finally decided to postpone the second round of matches of the ongoing Dhaka Premier League (DPL) for the 2019-2020 scheduled on March 18 and 19 amid the growing threat of the deadly coronavirus across the world.

The BCB will take further decisions on rescheduling and restarting the league according to the health and safety advisory of the government.

Speculation has spiraled that the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will also postpone the ongoing Dhaka Premier League (DPL) after Bangladesh men’s team third-phase tour in Karachi, Pakistan for one-day international and Test postponed.

Disregarding the threat of the deadly new virus of COVID-19 (coronavirus) across the world, the domestic sports in Bangladesh including cricket, football, hockey, chess and so on were going on unabated.

But the youth and sports ministry suggested its federations, associations and confederations to postpone all types of domestic sports till March 31 and all international games till April.

Later State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russell said that all types of sports and tournaments are postponed till March 31.

Earlier, India postponed their iconic Indian Premier League (IPL) along with their domestic one-day tournament.

That’s not the only instance in cricket, South Africa returned home from India, New Zealand went back from Australia and England back home from Sri Lanka. The trio came on tours with a length-time preparations.

The Sheffield Shield in Australia has been postponed. Foreign players from Pakistan Super League (PSL) have left for their respective countries. But only PSL is in vogue, whose final match will be played on Thursday.

All types of football leagues have been postponed in England, Spain and Italy.

The Education Ministry decided to postpone all the educational institutions till March 31 as a part of precautionary measures to prevent coronavirus outburst. Education minister Dipu Moni urged all the guardians and concerned authorities to make sure that students stay home during the vacation. The minister directed local administration to ensure the matter. Even she declared to stop the coaching centers across the country.
