Free trips for passengers

Commuters in the district will enjoy free trips on all internal routes today on the occasion of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
District Bus Owners' Group, Minibus Owners' Association and Faridpur Motor Workers' Union decided to make public transport free for passengers on the day. No public transport will charge passengers from 6am to midnight today in the district, said General Secretary of Motor Workers' Union Golam M Nasir.
Actions will be taken against bus drivers, their assistants and supervisors if anyone charges any fare or harass any commuter on the day, he added.
Man held for ‘raping’ girl

Police arrested a suspected rapist from Srifola village of Keshabpur upazila on Sunday night for allegedly raping a sixth grader madrasa girl. The arrestee is Abu Sayeed, 25, son of Mostafa Sarder.
Jasim Uddin, officer-in-charge of Keshabpur Police Station, said police arrested Sayeed from his house at night after the victim's mother filed a case in the afternoon.
According to case statement, Sayeed took the 12-year old girl to his house on Saturday evening when his family members were not home and raped her.
The girl informed her mother about her ordeal after returning home. Police said the accused was sent to jail through the court.
Eight fishermen jailed for catching hilsa

A Mobile Court in Haimchar Upazila sentenced eight fishermen to suffer jail term for two years each on charge of their netting jatka fish in the Meghna River from morning till 2 pm yesterday defying an ongoing ban on netting hilsa.
Executive Magistrate and AC (Land) Mizbahul Alam Bhuiyan jailed them and sent them to jail in the afternoon.
Earlier they were caught red handed during drives by Upazila taskforce team. The convicted fishermen are Habib Beg,24, Hannan Beg, 45, Alim Beg 26, Roman Hossain,22, Lytton Mridha,24, Alam Bepari, 19,Alam Molla, 40, and Fatik Bepari, 35, all residents of Boro char village under Ekhlaspur union in Matlab Uttar Upazila.
