Police SI, 6 others die in road accidents

At least seven people, including a Special Branch (SB) police officer, were killed and four others were injured in separate road crashes in five districts across the country yesterday. In Narayanganj, a sub-inspector of Special Branch was killed after a truck hit his motorcycle around 4 pm near Kanchon Bridge in Rupganj upazila of the district. The deceased was identified as AKM Fazlul Haque, 38, who worked in SB office at Malibag in the capital.

He was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

Our Mymensingh correspondent reports: A rickshaw puller and his passenger were killed in a road accident at Bhaluka Bus Stand area on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Bhaluka upazila yesterday morning.

One of the victims was identified as Anwar Hossain, 40, a garment worker in Bhaluka who hailed from Burichang upazila of Cumilla. The identity of the rickshaw puller could not be known immediately.

Our Jashore correspondent reports: Three people were killed in separate road crashes at Shimakhali on Jashore-Magura Road, Gaidghati bazaar and Jadabpur bazaar under Bagharpara upazila.

The deceased were identified as Jinder Ali, 55, hailing from Jaga Mohonpur under Bagharpara upazila, Abhimoy Debnath, 28, hailing from Muradnagar of Cumilla and Sunil Biswas, 70, hailing from Gaidghat under Bagharpara upazila.

Jinder Ali was killed when an engine-driven local vehicle collided head-on with a three-wheeler near Jadhabpur bazaar while Abhimoy Debnath got hurt as a Dhaka bound bus turned turtle at Shimakhali at around 2pm. Later, the attending doctor

of Jashore General Hospital declared Ali dead.

Sunil Biswas died at the same hospital at around 3pm after being hit by a pickup van at Gaidghati.

In Gaibandha, a three-year old child was killed after being hit by a CNG-run auto-rickshaw at Majhipara village of Sundarganj in the district yesterday.

The deceased was identified as Dipak, son of Dulal Mia of the village.

Abdullahil Zaman, the officer-in-charge (OC) confirmed the incident.

Local people caught the auto-rickshaw driver along with the vehicle, the OC added.

In Barishal, 4 people including three students of University of Barishal were injured after being hit by a mini-truck on an auto-rickshaw. The injured students are – Yousuf Sikder, G M Fahad and Md Nawar Haque.

All injured were taken to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal for treatment.
