Youth stabbed dead in Ctg

A young man was stabbed to death reportedly by his friend over a trifling matter at Gobindarkhil in Patiya upazila on Tuesday night. The victim was identified as Jasim Uddin, 24, son of Zahir Ahmed of the upazila. Quoting locals, police said Jasim and his friend Emon had an altercation around 9:45 am over the payment of a loan of Tk 150, borrowed by Emon. At one stage, Emon stabbed Jasim indiscriminately, leaving him critically injured, said Borhan Uddin, OC of Patiya Police Station. Later, he was taken to Patiya Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead.
RAJUK official jailed in graft case

A Dhaka court on Wednesday sentenced a suspended official of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) to three-year imprisonment in a graft case filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). Judge Md Shahidul Islam of Dhaka Special Judge Court-7 passed the order, sentencing Jajaul Haque Munshi Junnu, 47, to three-year imprisonment. ACC filed the case against the official working with design wing of RAJUK for amassing Taka 14, 70,514 illegally. The court on Wednesday also ordered to confiscate the money under state exchequer.
Nine ‘smugglers’ arrested

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested nine members of a smuggling gang from Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram yesterday. The arrestees are - Md Rashidul Karim, 22, Md Sajjad Mahesh, 27, Md Ali Hossain, 42, Abdul Azim, 26, Abdullah Al Mamun, 25, Syed Nazim Uddin, 35, Abul Kalam, 42, Sahabuddin, 28 and Md Harun, 35, hailing from different areas of Chattogram and Feni. They arrived at the airport on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight from the United Arab Emirates. Assistant Superintendent of Police Mahmudul Hasan, media officer of RAB-7, said the smugglers were arrested from outside the main gate of the airport.
