40 DU students get Sumitomo scholarship

A total of 40 under-graduate students of different academic years of Dhaka University (DU) yesterday received Sumitomo Corporation Scholarship, Japan. DU Vice-chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman distributed the scholarships among the recipients at a function at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban in the campus, said a press release. Treasurer Prof Md Kamal Uddin chaired the function while Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Naoki Ito and General Manager of the Sumitomo Corporation Ichiro Takahashi addressed it as special guests. Earlier, Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Naoki Ito paid a courtesy call on DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman at the latter’s office of the university.
Seminar on cultural dilemma held at IU

A seminar on cultural dilemma as reflected in the works of Bharati Mukharjee and Jhumpa Lahiri was held on Tuesday at Islamic University in Kushtia. IU English department organised the seminar at the room no-201 of Rabindra-Nazrul Arts’ Faculty building. IU English department Professor M Mamunur Rahman addressed the seminar as the chief discussant while Khairul Islam presented the article under the supervision of the university’s pro-vice-chancellor Professor M Shahinoor Rahman. The departmental chairperson Professor Mossammad Salma Sultana chaired the seminar. Around one hundred students of the department took part in the seminar. While addressing the seminar, the speakers shed lights on diaspora, cultural dilemma, cultural duality, identity crisis and post-colonialism. Among others, IU English department teachers M Mizanur Rahman, Shahadat Hossain Azad, Professor Miah M Rashiduzzaman, Prodip Kumar Adhikari Prokash Chandra Biswas, Sazzad Hossain Zahid, Liton Baron Sikder were present in the seminar.
