Rejecting BNP’s claim that the Awami League-led government is controlling judiciary, the ruling party General Secretary Obaidul Quader yesterday said the Awami League government always believes in independence of judiciary and rule of law. “We believe in democracy and we believe in independent judiciary along with rule of law. We have not backtracked from our stance,” Quader said this while replying to queries from the newsmen at a press conference at the party president Sheikh Hasina’s Dhanmondi political office in the capital.
The AL general secretary said they are looking into the matter of stand-released Pirojpur District and Sessions Judge Abdul Mannan after passing an order to send former AL MP AKM Awal and his wife Laila Parvin to jail, rejecting their bail prayers in three corruption cases filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) last year.
“Besides, transfer of judges is completely a matter of the judiciary and the law ministry. We should not make any comment on the issue,” he said adding that if there could have any misunderstanding between the judiciary and the law ministry, they would resolve it.
Replying to another query, Quader said BNP always resorts to negative politics and the party tries to make an issue of each of the trifle matters.
