Reconsider Modi visit in view of Delhi riots, urges BNP leader

A senior BNP leader yesterday observed that the Indian prime minister Narendra Modi's visit to Dhaka should be reconsidered in view of the recent riots in New Delhi.  BNP standing committee member Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain made the comments while speaking at the national council of Islami Oikya Jote (IOJ), which is part of the BNP-led 20-Party Alliance.

“We welcome the goodwill visits of prime ministers. That is normal diplomatic practice. But the Indian premier is coming to Dhaka when Muslims are being killed by the Hindu community; mosques are being set on fire. Muslims are opposing his visit,” he said.

Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Dhaka on March 17 to attend Bangabandhu's birth centenary programme the same day at the invitation of the Bangladesh government.

The BNP leader also touched upon the recent incident in Pirojpur, alleging that the court had issued its verdict as per the directive of the government.
