St Joseph and St Gregory’s
likely to vie for title

Bangabandhu Inter School Basketball Tournament powered by  Duranta bicycle will kick-off today at Dhanmondi Basketball Gymnasium.

Bangladesh Basketball Federation (BBF) has been organising the tournament as part of Mujib Barsha celebration. The BBF is planning to hold a series of tournaments during year of Muib Barsha.

BFF General Secretary A H Sarkar Bhaya stated this at a press conference at BOA auditorium in the capital. BBF vice-president Mainul Ahsan Manjoo, joint secretary Khairul Alam Forhad and Duranta Bicycle brand manager  Rakibul Hasan were also present.

“This tournament would help the BBF to find a number of talented cagers from all over the country as 16 school teams from different districts are taking part in the three day tournament,” said Bhaya, a former national player.

The 16 participating teams will be divided into four groups and the competition will be held on round robin league system with the top four teams from each group making it into the semifinals.

The organisers earmarked St Joseph High School and St Gregory’s High School as the two favourtite teams although they did not rule out other teams to fight for the top positions. Replying to a query, the BBF general secretary said that the outstation  teams will be house at Mirpur Krira Palli in the capital.

Duranta Bicycle brand manager  Rakibul Hasan assured the BBF that it would continue its support to develop basketball in the country.

The participating schools are: St Joseph High School,  Scholastica,  Green Herald International School, Quantum Cosmo School, St Philips High School of Diaper,  Isfahan Public School and College of Cumilla,  Maple Leaf International School, Sir John Wilson School, St Nicholas High School of Gazipur, Baliapukr Biddya Niketan of Rajshahi, Jorpukaria Secondary School of Khagrachari, Mastermind School, St  Gregory’s High School, Muslim Academy of Jashore,  Sunnydale and Dhanmondi Tutorial.
