Dhaka derby today

It will be the first encounter of the giants in the season when Mohammedan Sporting Club and Abahani Limited will lock horn in the Bangladesh Premier League Football today at the Bangabandhu National Stadium. The match will kick-start at 6:30pm.

Though, now a day the appeal of the match of the country’s two traditional giants is not in that height as once it was but the feeling among the fans still remain, specially, the booters and the club officials still feel the excitement.

Abahani Limited in fact yet to appear with the real strength in the league when they could win two matches out of three outings when they were forced to draw with the Brothers Union when Mohammedan own two matches and suffered a defeat out of the three matches.

However, both the sides will play their fourth match and Abahani captain Nabib Newaz Jibon thinks it is he match to remain in contest of championship fight when Mohammedan captain Mazharul Islam Himel thinks that it is match which will have to win. Though, both the captains of Mohammedan and Abahani are the booters of this generation but the excitement and thrilling of the match works in them.

In comparison of the team’s strength Abahani are far ahead of Mohammedan in black and white when Sky-blue is under a Portugal coach Mario Lemos and an English coach Sean Lee and looked to make a huge improvement.

Himel is very much hopeful to win the match as he said, “We have good preparation, we play with the target to win. If we could beat Abahani we will be able to reach in better position.” Meanwhile, Mohammedan Sporting Club have great pleasure having back to back win against Abahani in last season when the Black and White just outplayed the then reigning champions in both first and second leg by 3-0 and 4-0 respectively.

But Mohammedan captain Himel does not thinks that there is nothing to feel consolation remembering the happy moment of last league’s wins. “Yes, it was great to beat Abahani on two successive times with a handsome margin but it is another season, different game, so we will have to concentrate on the tomorrow’s match.”

Jibon, counterpart of Himel said that they will have to play better to win the match. “We need to play better football to win the match. We will have to win. It is very much important match for us.”

“As it is a prestigious match, so tension, pressure will be there, but will have to overcome from that to win the match. We have no option but to win the match to remain in the title race, we will have already drawn one match out of three,” said Jibon, the national team’s striker.
