10 women return home after serving jail in India

UNB, Jashore

Ten Bangladeshi women, who served jail term in India for illegal entry, were handed over to Bangladesh authorities on Monday through the Benapole land port.

Ahasan Habib, officer-in-charge of Benapole Check Post Immigration Police, said the women went to India around three years ago and were caught by police for trespassing.

They were sentenced to jail for three years. Later, non-government organisation Nabojibon arranged their repatriation. They were handed over to Benapole Check Post Immigration Police around 6pm. Justice and Care, a Bangladeshi NGO, took the responsibility of sending back the girls to their families, the OC added.

Woman found dead in hotel

UNB, Patuakhali

Police recovered the body of a young woman from a residential hotel of Kuakata here on yesterday morning.

The deceased was identified as Eshita Begum, 18, wife of Razzak, hailing from Keshabpur in Jashore.

Quoting sources at Hotel Holiday Inn, police said that Eshita came to Kuakata with her husband on February 29.

On Monday afternoon, Razzak went out of the hotel locking the room. The hotel workers knocked at the door but did not get any response and informed police. Later, police broke into the room and recovered the body.
