The Dhaka University observed Flag Hoisting Day on the campus yesterday. On March 2, 1971, the national flag of independent Bangladesh was hoisted on the Dhaka University campus. The then vice-president of Dhaka University Central Students’ Union ASM Abdur Rob hoisted the National flag of independent Bangladesh on behalf of Swadhin Bangla Chhatra Sangram Parishad on the  Bot Tola premises.

DU Vice-chancellor Professor Akhtaruzzaman formally inaugurated the programme marking the day as the chief guest. He paid tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on the occasion. Pro-Vice-chancellor (Education) Dr Nasreen Ahmed presided over the function while Pro-Vice-chancellor (Administration) Muhammad Samad, Treasurer Kamal Uddin, president of the Dhaka University Teachers' Association (DUTA) ASM Maksud Kamal and general secretary Nizamul Hoque Bhuiyan were present as special guest.

Programme co-ordinator and Dean of Arts faculty Professor Abu Md Delwar Hossain delivered the welcome address.
