At least 7 people were killed and 50 others injured in road crashes in Gopalganj, Kushtia, Jamalpur and Jhenaidah districts since Thursday night. In Gopalganj, five construction workers were killed and seven others injured when a bus hit a human hauler on Dhaka-Khulna highway at Pona Bus Stand in Kashiani upazila of the district yesterday, reports UNB. The deceased were identified as Sumon Munshi, 20, son of Belayet Munshi, Badier Molla, 30, son of Rafique Molla, Mizan Fakir, 50, son of Bazlu Fakir, Layek Fakir, 50, son of Ajiron Fakir and Sirajul Islam Mollah, 30, son of Abi Mollah of Parulia union of the upazila. According to the police, the Dhaka-bound bus of 'Falguni Paribahan' from Khulna rammed the human hauler
around 8:00 am, leaving one passenger of the human hauler dead on the spot and eleven others injured. Of the injured passengers, two died on way to Kashiani Upazila Health Complex while two others succumbed to their injuries at Faridpur Medical College Hospital and Sadar Hospital.
In Kushtia, at least 40 people, including 37 students and two teachers of Islamic University (IU), were injured in a road crash at Bittipara in Sadar upazila of the district yesterday, reports UNB.
The two teachers were identified as assistant professors of Management Department of the University Dhananjoy Kumar and Murshid Alam.
According to the police, the accident took place around 1:30 am when a bus carrying the students and teachers crashed into a roadside tree after hitting a stationary truck while heading towards the university from Naogaon, leaving 40 people injured.
Twelve of the injured, including the bus driver, were sent to General Hospital while the others to the University Medical Centre.
Meanwhile, in Jamalpur, a person was killed and two others were injured in a road crash in Islampur Upazila of the district yesterday, reports BSS.
The deceased was identified as Delu Miah, 35, son of Shamsul Miah of Kharma Bazar village in Dewanganj Upazila of the district.
Police said the accident occurred when a bicycle collided head-on with a motorcycle around 11:30 am. Delu Miah was rushed to Islampur Health complex, where the attending doctors declared him dead.
Critically injured Sundar Ali and Zamil were sent Mymensingh Medical
College Hospital.
A case was filed with Islampur police station in this connection.
In Jhenaidah, a bus helper was killed when a bus hit a truck at Nagarbathan in Sadar upazila on Thursday night, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Amir Hamza, 15, son of Asadul Islam of Lebutala village in the upazila.
The bus hit a truck from behind, leaving two people injured, said Dilip Barua, Station Master of Jhenaidah Fire Service.
Later, the injured were taken to Sadar Hospital where doctors declared Amir dead.
