Member of ‘Allahr Dal’ held

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested a suspected member of banned militant outfit 'Allahr Dal' from Gangni upazila on Thursday night.

The arrestee was identified as Russel Ahmed, 30, a member of Allahr Dal and son of Abul Kalam Azad.

Tipped off, a team of Rab conducted a drive at his house in Garadob village of the upazila, according to Rab-6.

A case was filed with Chuadanga Police Station in this regard.

Miscreants kill Tangail van driver

Miscreants killed a van driver at Mominpur village under Dhanbari Upazila of the district on Thursday night.  

The deceased was identified as Tara Mia,5, Somotpur village under Dhanbari Upazila. Police recovered the body from Boroitola Bridge of village Mominpur in the morning.  

Masud, son of the deceased said that his father came out of the house at the evening of Wednesday. But he did not return home. Miscreants in guise of passengers hijacked the van and killed his father, he added.

OC of Dhanbari, PS Chan Mia said that the body was sent to Sheikh Hasina Medical College for autopsy. Steps will be taken after getting the autopsy report, OC added.

Two ‘drug peddlers’ held

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested two alleged illegal drug peddlers with 3,895 pieces of yaba tablet from Moharajpur Miapara under Chapainawabganj sadar upazila on Thursday morning.

The arrested persons are Md. Siraj, 33 and Md. Ashraful Islam, 22.

RAB said, acting on secret information, an operation team of RAB-5 from Chapainawabganj camp raided the aforesaid area at around 11 am and arrested the duo with the yaba tablets.

Later the arrested persons were handed over to the police of Chapainawabganj sadar thana with a case.

Kidnapped girl rescued, abductor held

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-13 rescued a kidnapped teenage girl, 12, and arrested a member of an organised gang of abductors from village Uttar Kamarpara in Dimla upazila of Nilphamari in early hours of yesterday.

“A special operational team of RAB-13 from its Nilphamari Camp conducted a raid in the village, rescued the girl and arrested one of the abductors at 2:15 am yesterday,” said a press release issued by Media Officer of RAB-13 Major Syed Imran Hossain.

Earlier, abductors kidnapped the girl of Kallyanpur Main Road area under Mirpur Model Thana of Dhaka city from in front of BKSP School Gate at Zirani Bazar area under Ashulia Thana after she reached there at 10:20 am on January 23 last. Getting secret information about the location of the victim, the elite force rescued her and arrested abductor Abu Azam alias Nahid, 35, of village Zorabari Dakshingram (Ostapara) in Domar upazila of Nilphamari district from the spot.

“However, three other abductors Abu Alam, 28, Piyarul, 40, and Ziarul, 44, of village Zorabari Dakshingram (Ostapara) in Domar upazila of Nilphamari district managed to escape from the scene,” the release said.
