Students and their guardians yesterday locked Sakharidah High School in Harinakundo upazila protesting realisation of excess fees from SSC examinees by the school authorities. The angry students also brought out a procession in protest. The headmaster of the school later assured the students of returning the excess money that the authorities have realised. Some of the students said 97 candidates are due to sit for the Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSC) in 2016 from the school. As per the decision of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) in Jessore the examination fees have been fixed at Tk 1,200 for humanities group and Tk 1,350 for science and commerce groups. But the headmaster of the school Ibadat Hossain has allegedly collected Tk 2,000 and Tk 2,100 respectively from the examinees ignoring the BISE decision. Amjad Hossain, district secondary education officer in Jhenidah, said he was informed about the matter. Hossain said he has advised the upazila secondary education officer in Harinakundo for taking immediate steps against the headmaster.
