All vehicles on the Barishal-Banaripara and Nesarabad regional roads came to a halt after a bailey bridge collapsed at Madhabpasha Bazar in the city yesterday. The accident took place when a stone-laden lorry came from Sylhet crossed the bridge. In the accident lorry also plunged into the canal. Three units of fire service rushed to the spot and tried to salvage the vehicle till filing the report. Md Faruk Hosen, additional director of Barishal Fire Service said that the bridge have capacity to load highest 10 tonnes but the vehicles have been crossing here loading over 20 tonnes. Police visited the spot and local people suggested to use alternative road.
