A youth was arrested in Brahmanbaria over alleged Facebook post against the Food Minister and some important government high-ups on Monday. The arrestee is Manik Mia, 26, a resident of Brahmanbria district’s Sarail upazila, was held under section 57 of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act on Monday midnight from his resident in Kalikoccho Bazar of the upazila. Officer in Charge (OC) of Sarail police station, Sahadat Hossain Tito confirmed the incident and said that the arrestee posted offensive remarks against the Food Minister, Sadhan Chandra Majumder and also against some important government officials.  “A case was filed under ICT Act by Advocate Mokhlesur Rahman, after Manik mia posted false and defaming materials regarding the Food Minister,” OC added.

The police yesterday produced him before a district court seeking 10 days remand. Court will today inform whether the remand will be granted or not, Sahadat Hossain further said.
