Three AL activists injured in Jashore ‘terrorist attack’

UNB, Benapole

Three local Awami League activists were injured as terrorists carried out attack and vandalised their office at Gatipara village in Benapole on Sunday night.

Tahajjel Hossain Bhola, president of Awami League Benapole unit, said a group of terrorist numbering 10-12 went to the office and ordered his men to bring five bottles of liquor around 11:30 pm.

Terrorists beat them as they refused to do that, leaving Hafizur, Sohag, and Jabbar critically injured, he added.

Mamun Khan, officer-in-charge of Benapole Port Police Station, said they were informed about the incident.

Necessary legal measures will be taken after receiving complaint in this connection, he added.

Youth gets life in prison for raping teen in Laxmipur

UNB, Laxmipur  

A court in Laxmipur on Monday awarded life imprisonment to a youth and five-year sentence to another one in a case filed over the rape of a teenager girl in Kamalnagar of Laxmipur.

The lifer is Abdur Rahim while the other convict is Mohammad Helal. They were also fined Tk 10,000 and Tk 5,000 respectively and in default, they will have to serve one more month in jail.

Mohammad Sirajuddoulah, judge of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal, pronounced the verdict around 12 noon acquitting another accused Shyam Sundor.

According to the prosecution, on October 10, 2014, the teenager was taken to Meghna Cinema in Hazirhat area of Kamalnagar on the promise of marriage where she was raped.

The victim’s brother lodged a rape case the following day.
