Admission rule violators to 
face the music : DSHE

The government will take punitive measures against the school authorities that will violate the rules regarding the catchment area during the admission tests this year. Sources of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (DSHE) said they have warned the authorities of some private schools in the capital that in the beginning did not want to comply with the government’s decision about 40 per cent area based admission.  “We’ve got some allegations that some of the non-government educational institutions in the capital did not want to comply with the 40 per cent area based admission in the beginning. Later they were called to the DSHE and instructed to follow the admission policy,” Prof Md Elias Hossain, directorate (secondary) of DSHE, told The Independent. He said, “We will take punitive measures if any school tries to violate the rules.” Meanwhile, the admission committee of DSHE has earmarked the area based admission for the 38 government schools in the metropolitan on the basis thanas. They have categorised the 38 government schools into three Groups – Group-A, Group-B and Group-C.
There area 13 schools are under Group-A, 13 schools under Group-B and 12 schools under Group-C.
A single candidate can apply to maximum three schools in three groups for admission this year. But the candidate will not be able to apply more than ones to the same class. All the admission process for government schools will be completed through online and the applicant will know through online about their catchment area, Prof Elias said. The online application to 38 schools will begin on November 30 midnight and it will continue till December 13 midnight. The website to apply is gsa.teletalk.com.bd. The application fee will be Tk 150 and it can be given by Teletalk mobile service. Meanwhile, the catchment area for the non-government educational institution is still under process to provide 40 per cent area based facility but the catchment area of some of the schools like Viqarunnisa Noon School and College, Dhaka Residential Model College, Birshreshtha Noor Mohammad Public College and Birshreshtha Munshi Abdur Rouf Public College, Rajuk Uttara Model School and College have been earmarked.  But Ideal school and College has not been finalised yet as the school authority only wants to cover the colony of the area and not other parts, Harun Or Rashid, education officer of Dhaka Education Office told The Independent. He, however, said, “All the process for non-government educational institutions will be finalised soon. Then the catchment area will be mentioned with the admission circular.” It has been learnt that Viqarunnisa Noon School and college will cover the Ramna thana, Birshreshtha Noor Mohammad Public College and Birshreshtha Munshi Abdur Rouf Public College will cover Dhanmondi, Lalbagh and Hazaribagh thanas, Dhaka Residential Model College will cover Sher-e-bangla Nagar and Adabar thanas to get the facility of 40 per cent quota.
