CCC continues eviction drive

Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) after a two-day gap yesterday  pulled down four more billboards from city’s gate no.2 and fined Tk 15,000 to two advertisement companies. CCC resumed eviction drive against illegal hoardings in the premier port city from June 1, 2015 after six months, as per the direction of its newly elected mayor AJM Nasir Uddin. The drive yesterday led by Nazia Shirin, executive magistrate of CCC for the second days at city’s Gate No.2 during the drive the magistrate fined to Kuddos Add Tk 5,000 and Add Relation to Tk10, 000 for erecting illegal billboard occupying footpath which creates obstruction to the traffic movement in the city.
In the first day drive on Monday, CCC evicted four billboards and five mega signboards from the city’s gate no.2 During the drive two CCC officials, revenue officer, Shamsul Alam and bench assistant Nomita Biswas locked into
altercation yesterday.
During the eviction drive it was seen that the owners of the advertisement company always came with some documents signed by the CCC officials of revenue department and the advertisement company owners demand that the billboards are legal.
However, the CCC magistrate demands always that the CCC has no record of those documents and evicting the billboards.
Nomita Biswas alleged that revenue officer Shamsul Alam and the advertisement company owners have an unholy nexus, so the advertisement owner’s everyday shows some
documents but which has no record in the CCC.
The illegally claimed for billboards everyday disrupts the drive, said CCC sources.
