Six BCL men hurt in factional clash
Six activists of Barisal city and district units of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) were injured in a factional clash at Shaheed Abdur Rab Serniabat Textile Engineering College in the city on Wednesday night. The injured BCL activists are--- Sapan Majumdar, convener of textile institute, Rajiv, joint convener of the institute, and both are the followers of city BCL president Jasimuddin; others are Tuhin and Saikat Rahman, BCL activists of the institute and also the followers of district secretary Abdur Razzak, led by Anik Serniabat.
According to the sources, two BCL activists of the institute Rafiqul Islam Tushar and Saikat, and also the followers of Razzak group, were going to textile institute around 8pm on Wednesday.
Then the activists of Jasim group, led by Sapan, stopped them and asked for explanation of previous rival faction.
At one stage both group locked in altercation. Rafiq managed to escape the scene but Saikat was abducted by the rivals.
Hearing the news, followers of Razzak group rushed to the spot and a clash erupted between the two groups. Later, abducted Saikat was rescued in critical condition from torture cell of rival group.
During the clash six activists were injured and were admitted to the surgery ward of Barisal Sher-E-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH). Among the injured Saikat was sent to Dhaka early Thursday as his condition deteriorated, said SBMCH sources
When contacted, city BCL president Jasimuddin denied his involvement with the incident and Sapan Majumdar also denied the allegation of abducting Saikat.
But Sapan alleged that when they challenged the entry of outsiders on the campus they came under attack by the followers
of Anik.
Shakhawat Hossain, officer in charge of Kotwali police station, said police deployed in the area to avoid any untoward situation. No case was lodged with police station till filing this report.
