Nat’l judicial academy in the offing

Law Minister Anisul Huq yesterday said the government is planning to set up a judicial academy considering the importance of training for judges in the country. The National Judicial Academy will be established at Shibchar upazila of Madaripur district, the minister said.

“The judiciary is an independent organ of the government and it is important to provide training to judges for institutionalization of the body. Hence, the National Judicial Academy will be set up in line with a directive from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in this regard,” the law minister said these to reporters while inspecting a site for the academy in the upazila yesterday. He was accompanied by local MP and Awami League leaders during the site inspection.

The minister said Shibchar, situated on the banks of Padma, will become an important location once the much awaited Padma bridge opens to traffic. “Shibchar upazila will turn into a very significant location after the completion of the construction of Padma bridge. The government will also set up a “Chouki Adalat” (a local court) in the upazila in order to ensure access to justice of general people in the locality,” the minister added.

Later, the minister attended a view exchange meeting organised Bhanga Upazila Bar Association of Faridpur District.
