‘BCL activists’ lock VC office at SUST
SYLHET: Some Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists allegedly locked the Vice-chancellor’s office of Shahjalal University of Science & Technology (SUST) and halted the teacher appointment process of Social Science department yesterday, reports UNB.
Sources said as the tenure of social science departmental head Professor Abdul Gani, will expire tomorrow the university authorities called a meeting of the selection board for appointing a new head for the department.
On information, some BCL activists locked the vice-chancellor’s office to stop the appointment process bringing allegation of corruption and irregularities at noon. They alleged that teacher appointment during vacation of the university is ‘ill-motivated’.
Later, Dr Ilas Uddin, vice-chancellor (acting) of Shahjalal University of Science & Technology (SUST) suspended the teacher appointment process.
He said teacher appointment during vacation is not illegal but the appointment process has been suspended due to the situation.
