Science fair inaugurated

OUR CORRESPONDENT, Chapainawabganj

The 41st National Science and Technology Week and Science Fair with the slogan ‘Science and Technology for Conserving Environment and Nature’ was inaugurated in Chapainawabganj yesterday.

Deputy Commissioner of Chapainawabganj AZM Nurul Hoque inaugurated it as chief guest at a function held at Nawabganj Government College auditorium with additional Deputy Commissioner (General) of Chapainawabganj AKM Tazkir-uz-zaman in the chair.  Among others, principal of Nawabganj Government College Professor Dr. Shankar Kumar Kundu, principal of Chapainawabganj Polytechnic Institute, Engineer Humayun Kabir Khan and acting principal of Chapainawabganj Technical Training Centre Engineer Nabila Nujhat attended the function as special guests.

Educational institutions from five upazilas of the district installed 18 stalls in the fair.

Man jailed for marrying child

UNB, Sherpur

A mobile court on Tuesday sentenced a man to one and a half years imprisonment for marrying a child.

The convict was identified as Shohag Mia, 27, son of Shah Ali of Saluatala Fakirpara village in Nalitabari upazila. It was his second marriage. Basir Ahmed Badal, officer-in-charge of Nalitabari Police Station, said Shohag married Nargis, daughter of Haidar Ali of Geramara village on March 24, 2013. The couple has been blessed with a son.

Recently, Shohag had an affair with a 12-year-old girl and they got married. When his first wife Nargis, who is carrying their second child, learned about it, she made a complaint with the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) on Tuesday night.

One held for supplying fake question paper

BSS, Rangpur

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-13 arrested an alleged member of a fake question paper leaking gang from village Barokhata Chowrangi crossing area in Hatibandha upazila of Lalmonirhat in the evening on Tuesday.

“The arrested person is Md. Hasibul Islam, 26, son of late Abul Kalam Azad of Purbo Fakirpara village of Hatibandha upazila in Lalmonirhat district,” a press release issued here today by Media Officer of RAB-13 Major Syed Imran Hossain said.On a tip off, a special operation team of RAB-13 from its Rangpur Battalion headquarters conducted a sudden raid in the area and arrested the youth.

The arrested youth admitted his involvement in cheating examinees of the SSC Examinations-2020 by supplying fake question papers through messenger and whatsapp in exchange for money through Bkash and promising to change results.
