Six people were killed in separate road accidents in Mymensingh and Jashore yesterday. In Mymensingh, four passengers including two women were killed when a battery-run auto-rickshaw was run over by a bus on the Mymensingh-Kishoreganj highway yesterday morning. The accident left two others injured. The victims were identified as Rabeya Khatun, 75, Shahara Banu, 62, Lal Mia, 50, and Rafiqul Islam, 55.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Gouripur Police Station, Md Borhan Uddin Khan, said the accident took place at around 11:00am on the highway. Rabeya Khatun died on the spot while five others were rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) following the crash. Three more passengers died while undergoing treatment at the hospital at around 1.30pm, the OC said.
The other two passengers sustained heavy injuries and are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital. The bodies were sent those to MMCH morgue for autopsy. Police seized the bus but the driver of the vehicle managed to flee the scene. A case was lodged with Gouripur Police Station following the accident.
Meanwhile in Jashore, two people were killed in two separate crashes in the district early yesterday. Officer in-charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station, Moniruzzman, said that a man was run over by a covered van on the Jashore-Magura road when he was returning home riding a bicycle yesterday morning. The deceased was identified as Mohiuddin, 50, hailing from Joynagar of Bagharpara upazila.
In another incident on the Jashore-Khulna highway, a pickup van veered off the road and hit a tree killing a passenger on the spot. The deceased was identified as Shahabur Mia, 45, hailing from Salua village of Chuadanga Sadar upazila.
