Bangladesh national team Test openers Shadman Islam and Imrul Kayes are doubtful for the upcoming Test match against Pakistan, slated to be played in Rawalpindi from February 7.

Both the southpaw Shadman and Imrul have been suffering from wrist and hamstring injury and yet to recover fully from their respective injuries, the BCB chief physician Debashish Chowdhury told The Independent yesterday.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board, meanwhile, likely to announce the Test match squad on Friday and it remains to be seen whether the BCB make a final call over the duo.

Shadman suffered wrist injury while playing for BCB XI in the Dr (Capt) K. Thimmappiah Memorial tournament in Bangalore last year and Imrul sustained hamstring injury during the recently concluded Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League.

While talking to this correspondent Dr Debashish Chowdhury said that Shadman had been given an injection and his condition will be assessed within two-three days while Imrul has to pass a fitness test before being picked up in the squad.

“Shadman has been suffering from wrist tendon issues and it’s an old injury. We’re going to review his condition after two-three days to see how the injection working on him. But he isn’t ruled out yet. I also talked to the selectors regarding his injury. I sought time from them over Shadman’s injury. So, we’ll have to wait for the next couple of days,” Dr Debashish said.

The BCB chief physician also said that Shadman has been given a week-long rest and hence he won’t take part in the first round of the BCL.

When asked about Imrul Kayes’ injury update Dr Debashish said, “He is still nursing hamstring injury. If he plays in the first round of BCL, he might feel the problem again. So, we told him to skip the first match. He has improved a lot but needs more time to be fully fit.”

“If the selectors consider Imrul for the Test against Pakistan, he might undergo a fitness test,” Dr Debashis further added.
