The High Court (HC) yesterday upheld a lower court verdict, sentencing two persons to death in a case lodged over murder of one electrician named Rubel in 2010.
The two death row convicts are-- Rubel and Roni Biswas.
The HC bench however, also dropped name of another person Ruman, convicted by the lower court, as he has already died. The HC bench comprising Justice Krishna Debnath and Justice Muhammad Mahbub Ul Islam came up with the order after disposing of appeal filed by Rubel and Roni Biswas challenging the lower court verdict.
Rubel was killed in a room of Hotel Shah Kamal in Old Dhaka on June 6, 2010. His body was later hidden somewhere else. Rubel’s brother Moron Miah filed the case with Sutrapur Police Station. Dhaka 5th Special Judge Court on December 23, 2014, sentenced Rubel, Roni Biswas and Ruman to death. Of the three, Ruman died in jail, while the other two convicts filed appeals against their conviction.
Deputy attorney general Dr Bashirullah appeared for the state while Advocate Golam Abbas Chowdhury appeared on behalf of the appellants.
