The government has decided not to allow selling of adulterated and substandard petroleum products in fuel stations in country. Any petroleum product that has less than 87 octane number will not be allowed. It was decided at a high level meeting of the energy ministry yesterday. The Energy Division has instructed 14 private fractionation (processing) plants to supply standard petrol within three months to the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC).
Sources in the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources said the meeting was attended by the managing directors of the petroleum product producing companies. It was presided over by State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid.
During the meeting, the managing directors (MD) of the petroleum product producing firms got some directions to In broad terms, fuels with a higher octane rating are used in high-performance gasoline engines that require higher compression ratios.

The directives include installation of CRL unit to improve the octane number, and using booster to improve the octane number and use of ethanol to improve octane number. A 10 pc mixture of ethanol can improve the octane number, the meeting was told.
