Huge illegal fishing nets seized

A taskforce team of district fisheries department, in a drive, on Friday afternoon seized 1.5lakh meters of current fishing nets in the Meghna River. The team , led by  the District Fisheries officer  Md  Asadul Baki, conducted the raids at different areas of the river and seized the current nets.

However, none could be arrested in this connection as the fishermen fled away leaving the nets sensing the presence of taskforce team. The team could not seize jatka during the drive.  The seized nets were burnt before public at coastguard jetty under Katakhali  in Haimchar upazila.

Teen held with 1.8kg heroin

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in a drive arrested a suspected drug dealer with 1.8kg heroin from Thakur Joubon area in Godagari upazila on Friday night.

The 16-year-old suspect is a resident of the upazila.

Rab-5 said one of their teams raided the area acting on a tip-off and arrested the young man with the heroin.

The seized narcotic had a street value of about Tk 1.8 crore.

A case was filed.

Giant ray fish caught in Barguna

A giant ray fish, weighing about 400- kilogram, was caught by the fishermen in the Baleshwari River of the district yesterday. The fish, locally called Shaplapata, was brought at Patharghata BFDC Fish Market this noon. The giant fish that was caught in Padma area of the river had been sold out at Taka 63,000 at the fish market. One Md Shaheed Molla bought the fish which will be sold tomorrow at local market after cutting.
