Sixteen leaders and activists of Jamaat–e–Islami and Islami Chhatra
Shibir were arrested by members of
the district police from Charmohanpur
area of Chapainawabganj Sadar
upazila yesterday while holding a secret meeting.
Police also seized 15 cocktails and half-kg of gunpowder from their possession.
Police said the Jamaat and Shibir activists were planning to carryout subversive
activities.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chapainawabganj Sadar Police Sation Md Ziaur Rahman told BSS that on getting secret information, a contingent of police raided a mango orchard at Charmohonpur in the district around 7 am.
Sensing the presence of police, some of those in the meeting managed to escape, but police arrested 16 of them. The drive also seized 15 cocktails, gunpowder
and Islamic revolutionary books from
the possession of the activists, Ziaur
Rahman said.
A case has been filed against the arrestees under the Explosive Substances Act with Chapainawabganj Sadar Model police station, the OC added.
