Female students of Rajshahi University (RU) are securing more gold medals for their outstanding academic performance or securing the highest marks/CGPA in their respective faculties.
In the last eight years, RU students achieved 70 gold medals for their outstanding performance from the Prime Minister's Office. Among female students secured 37 gold medals.
Nine female students, out of 13, under the Arts Faculty received the Dean's Award for their outstanding academic results in B.A. and B.P.A (honors) exams of 2018. Female students of other faculties have also secured top positions. Besides, three female students, out of four, received the Khandaker Monowar Memorial Award on July 26, 2018. Earlier, four female students were also selected for the Momtazuddin Gold Medal Award.
RU female students secured five gold medals from 2014 to 2018 and 2012. They also received three gold medals in 2013 and 2011. Their male counterparts achieved four gold medals in each year from 2014 to 2018, six gold medals in 2013, three in 2012, and five in 2011.
In general, the female students are doing better than their male classmates.
Anika Nusrat, a pharmacy students who received the gold medal in 2015, said that she attained her goal through regular study, firm determination, and regular presence in classroom and tutorials.
RU Prof. Laila Arjuman Banu, who is the second female student adviser at RU, said the female students' fundamental attitude towards studies has changed. Female students are more careful in planning their career than that of their male counterparts, she added.
