Ensuring cyber security a key challenge: Experts

Ensuring proper cyber security is the key challenge before the country as even a slight mistake in that arena can lead to a major disaster, according to experts.

“The cyber world faces the highest risk of penetration by militants. We need to work together to tackle this risk,” said Md Nazmul Islam, additional deputy commissioner of the Cyber Security & Crime Division of Bangladesh Police, in his presentation at a five-day conference held at a Cox's Bazar hotel.

“We will have to face this challenge or could face major dangers ahead,” said Nazmul.

Mentioning some preemptive measures that could keep people safe on social media, Nazmul said those who use Facebook with Yahoo ID could shift to Gmail. This is because Yahoo has lowered the importance of their email security, he added.

One's date of birth should not be made public on Facebook, he said, and advised against sharing one’s NID to keep Facebook accounts secure.

Before sharing anything on Facebook or digital media, one should know all about the features of social media. Otherwise, the person may face a major cyber-attack.

Nazmul suggested that encrypted chat apps like WhatsApp and telegram should be used instead of messenger.

The Bangladesh Network Operators' Group (bdNOG) hosted its 11th conference and workshop at Long Beach Hotel in Cox’s Bazar to discuss technical issues regarding ‘Internet Operational Technology’. Inaugurated on January 10, the five-day event ended on January 14.
