Chuadanga: Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Dr Mizanur Rahman yesterday expressed surprise over a Narayanganj court order sending seven-murder prime accused Nur Hossain to jail instead of placing him on remand, reports UNB.
“I’m also shocked like the countrymen for not placing the seven-murder prime accused Nur Hossain on remand after bringing him back from India,” he said.
The NHRC chairman was addressing a seminar titled ‘Human rights for all: Untouchability perspective’ at the deputy commissioner’s office as the chief guest.
Replying to a question, Prof Mizan said, “The logic is not acceptable that there’s no need for taking Nur Hossain on remand as charges have already been pressed against him. It’ll rather raise a question.”
He also demanded putting the seven-murder prime accused on remand to avoid the question.
Police super Rashidul Hasan, additional deputy commissioner Anjuman Ara, writer Selina Hossain and representatives from different communities were present at the seminar held with deputy commissioner Saima Yunus in the chair.
