Two young men, including a police constable, and a pickup van driver were killed in separate road accidents in Chattogram and Laksmipur districts yesterday. In Chattogram accident, the deceased were identified as Alamgir, 24, a constable of the office of Deputy Inspector General of Police, Chattogram Range and Shahidul Islam, 28. The accident took place as a covered van rammed a motorbike in Fauzdarhat area of Sitakundu upazila yesterday morning.
In-charge of Chattogram Medical College Hospital police outpost said that the accident took place at around 6 am when the covered van hit their motrobike, leaving the duo critically injured. The injured were taken to the hospital where doctors pronounced them dead. In Laksmipur, a pickup van driver was killed and two others were injured when another pickup van hit his vehicle on the Dhaka-Raipur regional highway of the district yesterday morning.
The deceased was identified as pickup van driver M Mamun, 32, son of Nur Nobi, a resident of Titahajra village under Begumganj upazila in Noakhali district.
Police said the accident occurred in the area when a pickup rammed over the Lakshmipur-bound another one from behind as its driver lost control over the steering and plunged into a roadside ditch.
Mamun died on the spot. Injured Nizam and Riaz were sent to Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital.
