National Vitamin-A plus Campaign was observed in the cities yesterday with basic objective to reduce the risk of child mortality, save them from blindness and develop immune system of the children.
In CHATTOGRAM: Nearly 13 lakh babies were administered Vitamin ‘A’ Plus capsules in the first rounds of National Campaign for Vitamin A Plus capsule in the city yesterday.
Chattogram Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin formally inaugurated the city level campaign at city’s T&T colony high school of Agrabad at 8 am yesterday.
About 5000 volunteers and health assistants were engaged for administering vitamin ‘A’ Plus capsules to the children in 1,288 centres under 41 wards of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC).
CCC administered around five lakh 30 thousand children to bring under vitamin ‘A’ plus capsules campaign.
In Rajshahi: The campaign has been carried out at 384 centres, including 343 permanent and 41 mobile ones, in all 30 wards of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) area, said Dr AFM Anzuman Ara Begum, Chief Health Officer of RCC.
“We had set a target to feed around 62,168 babies with vitamin ‘A’ plus capsules during the campaign,” she said adding that around 7,950 children aged between six months and 11 months were given blue-coloured capsule of high powered Vitamin A while 54,218 children aged between one year and five red-coloured capsule of high-powered Vitamin A.
