50 Jammat, Shibir men held

Police in special drive arrested 282 people, including 50 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and it’s student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir, from different upazilas of district early yesterday. Police arrested the 50 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir’s from Satkania and Lohagara upazila. A total of 39 Jamaat-Shibir men were arrested in Satkania upazila while 11 others arrested from Lohagara upazila. During the drive police also seized 3,551 contraband yaba tablets, 137 litres of liquor and 230 gram hemp, said Muhammad Naimul Hasan, additional superintendent of police (SP) of Special Branch of Chittagong district. Among the arrestees, 232 were accused in different cases. Of them, 187 were warrant accused and 45 others were arrested over regular cases, said the police official Naimul. Meanwhile, Police in overnight special drives arrested 112 people from 14 Upazilas of the district on Saturday night. Mohammad Naimul Hasan, Additional Superintendent of Police (Special Branch) of Chittagong district, said among the arrestees 26 were accused in regular cases while 86 others were under arrest of warrants in different cases.

JCD leader held in Sylhet

Police arrested a leader of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), a student wing of Bangladesh Nationalist party (BNP), from Krin Bridge area of Sylhet city yesterday afternoon. The arrestee was Lokman Ahmed, former publication secretary of city JCD unit. Police said a team of Dakkin Surma police arrested him near the Krin Bridge. He was wanted in a number of sabotage cases. Later, he was produce before the court and it sent him to jail said, Athaur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Dakkin Surma police station.
