Four firms are likely to invest $2 billion in the country's IT (information technology) sector, reports BSS. The firms yesterday signed four separate memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with Bangladesh Hi-Tech Authority and ICT Division on their planned investment. The MoUs were signed on the opening day of the two-day second Bangladesh-UK e-Commerce Fair, began on Friday in London. Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed inaugurated the fair, with State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak attending the event as special guest.
The Hi-Tech Park signed three MoUs with Telecom Asia, Sea Mark (Bangladesh) Limited and Techshed Private Limited. Another MoU was signed between ICT Division and Payza Bangladesh. Under the agreements, Singapore-based Telecom Asia would invest around $1 billion in the next few years covering different areas of the IT sector in Bangladesh. Sea Mark (Bangladesh) plans to invest $50 to $100 million in computer software and hardware sectors.
London-based Techshed will initially investment $5 million to manufacture computer under "DG" (Delta golf) brand name. The investment will be increased in the next few years with the expansion of market for the computer brand.
Under the MoU, Payza Bangladesh will work with ICT Division to solve the problem in the payment gateway so the country's
freelancers can remit their earnings without facing any troubles.
