Bani Rani Acharjee, mother of Deepak Acharjee, a special correspondent of The Independent, breathed her last on Friday at around 10:04 am. She was 84.

She left behind five sons, granddaughters and grandsons and a number of admirers.

Her cremation took place on Friday at the family cremation ground in Monipur village of Nabinagar thana in Brahmanbaria district. The shraddha of deceased will be held on January 13.

Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU), of which Deepak Acharjee is a member, expressed deep shock and condolence at her death.
