Fog disrupts ferry services on Paturia-Daulatdia route

UNB,  Manikganj

Dense fog disrupted smooth ferry operations on the key Patutia-Daulatdia route yesterday early hour.

The authorities suspended ferry services several times between 3am and 7am due to poor visibility, said Assistant General Manager (AGM) Zillur Rahman of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority.

Several hundred vehicles remained stranded on both sides.

The ferry service resumed around 7am after visibility improved, the official said.

Missing child found dead

Police yesterday recovered the slaughtered body of a 10-year child in Paikerdol Puratonpara area in Sadar upazila seven days after he had gone missing.

The deceased is Hasan, son of farmer Mozaffar Hossain of the area.

One Ripon of the village spotted the body while working in a bamboo cluster and informed police, said Meer Asaduzzaman, additional superintendent of police.

Later, police recovered the slaughtered body, he added.

Quoting the parents of the child, the ASP said Hasan went missing on December 29 last year.

‘personal feud’ in Magura

A man has accused his rivals of cutting down 250 banana and Mehagni trees in Derua village in Magura Sadar Upazila on early Thursday.

Yaad Ali, the farmer, said he had been at loggerheads with Mohsin Biswas, an influential local, for protesting against the latter's suppression of the poor villagers.

"Mohsin and his associates came to the orchard in the early hours of Thursday and felled 200 banana and 50 Mehgani trees," Ali claimed, adding that he would file a case.

Mohsin could not be reached for comments.

Saidur Rahman, officer-in-charge of the local police station, told UNB that they had heard about the incident. "We're yet to get a written complaint," he said.
