At least four alleged robbers were killed in mass beating in Sadar upazila of Faridpur yesterday. The victims of the lynching could not be immediately identified. Witnesses and police said a gang of robbers, numbering 10 to 12, equipped with sharp weapons entered the houses of Momin Sheik, Matin Sheik, Rashid Sheik and Nizam Sheik at Chowdhuridangi village in Sadar upazila around 3.30am yesterday. The robbers held the family members hostage and looted gold ornaments, cash and other valuables. As the robbers tried to flee with the goods, the family members screamed for help. Hearing the scream, neighbours rushed to the spot and caught some of the robbers red handed. Angry villagers then beat them mercilessly and four succumbed on the spot Md. Tuhinur Rahman Mandal, chairman of Char Madhabdia union, said four villagers including house owners Matin Sheik and Nizam Sheik were also injured when the robbers hit them with sharp weapons. The injured were admitted to Faridpur General Hospital.
