Mohammedan Sporting Club will take on Rahamtganj MFS in the semifinal of the TVS Federation Cup Football today.
The match will take place at the Bangabandhu National Stadium at 4pm.
Mohammedan Sporting Club, the giants last played the final in the Federation Cup in 2009, after 10 years the second highest times Fed Cup winners are very closer to play the final.
Mohammedan, who won the Federation Cup 10 times, last time they celebrated the in 2009 defeating Abahani Limited in tie-breaker after a one all draw in the regulation and extra time game.
This time all the former champions but Mohammedan Sporting Club have already been eliminated when Abahani, Brothers, Muktijodha, Sheikh Jamal and Sheikh Russell failed to manage their room in the last fours.
Abahani Limited and Muktijoddha SKC ousted from the quarterfinal after suffering defeat at the hands of Rahmatganj and Bashundhara Kings respectively, when both the matches were decided in the tiebreaker after a 1-1 draw in the 90 minutes and 30 minutes extra times. Brothers Union, Sheikh Jamal and Sheikh Russell Krira Chakra could not cross the group stage.
The new look Mohammedan Sporting Club, under British born Australian coach looked a bit outstanding than their previous seasons when they demonstrating very outstanding performance this edition of the tournament to move into the semifinal as unbeaten.
On their way to semifinal Mohammedan defeated Uttar Baridhara and drew with Muktijoddha and Sheikh Russell Krira Chakra and just outplayed Chittagong Abahani Limited by 2-0.
Sean Lane, head coach of Mohammedan is looking for his boys’ consistency to repeating their performance they have been doing in the group and quarterfinal stage but thinks Rahmatganj will not easy to beat.
“Rahmatganj MFS is very good side and will be very tough to beat, they are very energetic, we will have to play our best on the day to move into the final. My boys are fit and keen to play the final said Sean lane.
Golam Jilani, head coach of the Rahmatganj, who made big upset defeating defending champions Abahani Limited in the quarterfinal said, “We have nothing to lose but to gain something. Mohammedans are a young team, they pressing football and defeating Chittagong Abahani, they are very inspired. We will have to play tough football and will not allow space.”
