Vitamin 'A' plus campaign, aimed at preventing night blindness and childhood blindness and increasing immunity of the children, was observed in Barisal in Rajshahi yesterday in a befitting manner. Chief health officer of Barisal City Corporation Dr Matiur Rahman inaugurated the programme at Jamir Uddinn Primary School Centre of the city in the morning. The programme is held once a year and blue-coloured capsules will be given to 6 to 11-month children and 2 lakh red capsules will be given to 12 to 59-month children, said Dr Mijnur Rahman, Civil Surgeon of Barisal.
The Barisal Health Department launched an extensive drive to give doses to over three lakh children in the district and about 50,000 children aged 0-59 months in the city corporation area were administered vitamin –A plus capsule.
All staff of the health department and 1,850 volunteers in 2,270 centers in 30 wards of the city corporation and 10 upazilas, 85 unions and 255 wards in the district worked to make the vitamin 'A' plus Campaign-2015 a success.
Dr AFM Shafiuddin, district civil surgeon Barisal and Dr Matiur Rahman, Barisal City Corporation health officer, said they achieved 98 percent success in the programme. BSS reports from Rajshahi: Like other parts of the country, Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) has started its National vitamin 'A' plus campaign- 2015 here yesterday morning vowing to make it a total success to prevent all the vitamin A deficiency related disorders among babies.
Nizam-ul Azim, Mayor-in-Charge of RCC, opened the event through administering a capsule to a baby in the city bhaban premises. "We have clinched the first position in EPI campaign in six consecutive times nationally. Similarly, we are committed to making this campaign a total success," Azim asserted, while addressing a brief opening discussion.
