Bangladesh Medical Technology and Pharmacy Samannoy Parishad organised a human chain programme and staged a demonstration in the city yesterday to press home its four-point demands. Students of Barisal Health Technology Institute also joined the programme held in front of Aswini Kumar Town Hall on Sadar Road of the city in the morning. They handed over a memorandum to the district civil surgeon with an agitation procession. They also held a rally presided over by Md Saib Hosen Aslam, convener of Bangladesh Medical Technology and Pharmacy Samannoy Parishad.It was addressed, among others, by Arifur Rahman, Obaydur Rahman, Arrnob Vokto, Sazal Pal, Sanjib Majumdar, Ratan Kumar Roy and Milton Biswas.
Their demands include resumption of appointment of the medical technologists and pharmacists that had remained suspended for a long time, giving 10th grade status to the medical technologists and pharmacists’ services, stopping medical technology course under the Technical Education Board, appointing technologists and pharmacists at all private and non-government health service providing organisations under specified rules and regulations creating new posts. The BDMTPSA leaders cautioned that if their demands were not met immediately, they would start a tougher agitation programme.
