Pvt teachers’ salaries as per national pay scale demanded

Bangladesh Shikkhok Samity at a press conference in the city yesterday pressed for giving monthly salaries of the teachers of the private schools and colleges according to the national pay scale. Md Abu Bakar Siddique, president of the association, said most of the educational institutions of the country are privately-run. Teachers and employees of the private schools and colleges are getting only Tk 500 house rent per month, Tk 300 medical allowance and one increment a year according to the National Pay Scale of 1991 and 25 percent festival allowance, Siddique lamented. The press conference was held at the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity  auditorium in the city.  Vice presidents of the association-- Ranjeet Kumar Saha, Md Bazlur Rahman Mia, Md Ali Asgar hawlader and Alka Ghosh-- general secretary Abul Kashem, joint secretary Md Kawser Ali Sheikh, organising secretary Md Siddiqur Rahman Shamim, cashier Md Shahidullah, publicity secretary Moni Hawlader, women’s affairs secretary Begum Nurunnahar, cultural affairs secretary Hena Rani Roy, assistant office secretary Md Iqbal and other leaders attended the press conference.  Demanding monthly salaries of the teachers of private schools and colleges as per the government pay scale, they had earlier held press conference, formed human chain and submitted memorandum to the Prime Minister different times, the leaders noted.
They also observed that MPO-related anomalies will go if the government takes an initiative to nationalise the education system of the country. Standard of education will be developed if the government remove the existing salary discrepancies between the private and public educational institutions, they remarked.   The leaders urged the government to implement the National Education Policy-2010, eliminate the discriminations between the teachers and employees of the private and public institutions, provide their retirement benefits within one year from the date of retirement and bring the non-MPO teachers under the MPO (Monthly Payment Order).
